Dear Friends,

I often wonder where creativity comes from. As one of many other artists who have unpredictable jobs, I seek to create the structure in which my personal creativity can flourish – a garden of brushes and canvas where paintings can grow and change. When I think of the studio as a garden – cycles of planting, of dormancy, of rules and complications, bugs and dirt, sunlight and rain, it all makes sense. Sometimes paintings grow quickly, like a gesture emerging; sometimes the work takes months, and often I wonder if anything will grow at all.

I go into the new year building on what has come before, and I also imagine what new possibilities 2015 can hold.

Wishing you the same sense of possibility and ‘big skies’ in this upcoming year.

Happy New Year.
